September 10th my 20year old sister suffered a massive stroke that left her paralyzed. She is making great progress but this is a marathon so there is a lot more work to be done.
Please keep her in your prayers.

My friends are definitely changing. Its always hard to loose a friend however its always a necessity when your friendship is doing more harm than good. Its something that we've all have gone through. You have to really weigh the pro's against the con's. Friends are suppose to be able to tell each other any and everything whether its good or bad.
Some people put a lot of work into their relationships with their significant others however they neglect their relationships with friends.
Nikole over at Moptop Maven posted an article recently expressing exactly how I was feeling.
"Like attracts like. It's no coincidence that the depression, unhappiness, and insecurity I felt at various points in my life attracted other people that were no better off than I was at the time."
Its so important to know yourself before you befriend someone. Their energy affects your life greatly. I'm not an insecure person so I couldn't have an insecure person in my circle.
"After giving myself a number of tune-ups and realigning with my true self, I started to attract people that were a mirror of me."
I'm constantly re-evaluating myself and making sure that I am the the best Nakira that I can be so why keep people around me who thinks less of me? One of my closest friends told me, people will show their true colors and shut their own doors out of your life.
So, before 2010 over please take a minute to re-evaluate your relationships with friends.

On another note, one of my great friends and mentor Christina, whom I wrote about here a few time, released a trailer for her new documentary 100 percent. This past January Christina was officially cured of Sickle Cell Anemia. Now she is gearing up to move to London to study at Central Saint Martin whose alumni boost of names like Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Zac Posen and the list goes on.Yesterday, my lovely friend Charlee and her mother open the doors to her new salon, Zalon Xpertise. We laughed, we drank, and Charlee did mani's and pedi's herself!
Luv you ladies!!!!
Its always exciting and a bit scary when entering a new chapter in your life. While I'm starting a new chapter much like my friends above, an important lesson that I'm learning is to demand just as much that your giving out. Don't let people suck you dry. The other day during an interview Will Smith said look at the 5 people closest to you. They are a reflection of you. Do you like that reflection? If not, you know what to do.
When I say you said a mouth full I mean you really said a mouth full. I have been through many high and low points in my life but I can really say I don't have a lot of true friends. I have started my own business and none of which has shown any recognition of the sort or made any effort to come to any of events. The ONLY person that has supported me and worn my things and gives me her honest opinion of what I am doing is my sister. That's the only thing that I can truly say. Most of them are absorbed in boyfriends or husbands. Maybe i don't understand because I don't have neither....**Kanye Shrug**
ReplyDeleteAs far as the family, I do understand your family situation to the T. My mom went into the hospital for congestive heart failure but now has kidney and liver and brain disease, she had to get her feet amputated b/c of a heparin allergy and she's on a ventilator. I swear, sometimes I don't know if I'm coming or going. I will be praying for your sister. It truly sucks because she is still a sweet baby. May the Lord be with you, your mind, your choices, and your family.
